東北の伝統模様〈桜崩し〉は山形蔵王温泉を代表する伝統こけしの模様です。
北欧デザインの起源よりも半世紀以上前から存在するこの伝統模様は、蔵王温泉で最後の伝統こけし工人、5代目の岡﨑幾雄さんが大切に受け継いで来られたデザインです。
自然と人間の手仕事が共に紡いだ伝統模様は、大きな変化や移動、情報が氾濫する現代では決して生み出せない清らかさと斬新さがあります。
本質的な自然の美しさを持つデザインを楽しんで頂くことで、日本、そして東北の文化を再認識し、多くの人に親しんで頂ければと思います。
Sakura Kuzushi is a traditional pattern from the Tohoku region and a signature design of the traditional Kokeshi dolls from Zao Onsen in Yamagata Prefecture. This pattern originated more than half a century before the birth of Nordic design. It has been carefully preserved by the fifth-generation master craftsman, Ikuo Okazaki, the last traditional Kokeshi artisan of Zao Onsen. This traditional pattern, woven from nature and human skill, possesses a purity and refreshing quality impossible to create in our modern society filled with rapid change, constant motion, and information overload.
We hope that encountering this design, which embodies nature's essential beauty, will deepen people's understanding of Japanese culture, especially the culture of Tohoku.
